A pumpkin patch adventure

It was such a beautiful day yesterday that we decided to venture out to get our pumpkins. Well us and about 27 million others! We decided to go out to Maris Farms since we have never been there before. It was very busy but they were very well organized as far as parking and having things well laid out. The farm had a ton of extra activities to do but everything had a price to go along with it. You can check out all the pricing and activities on their website. http://www.marisfarms.com/. There are also driving directions. If you want to go and enjoy all the goodies I would definatley recommend going and plan on staying for quite a few hours. They have some concessions out there but I would plan on packing a lunch and snacks. They have plenty of picnic tables to eat at. To be able to do all the activities it was $20 each for 6 and up and yes, adults need to pay that price too. We didn't realize this going up there and so chose to look around a bit and only get our pumpkins. They had fairly good pricing on them. I usually get my big pumpkins at Winco ($.19 a lb this year) and then let the kids pick out smaller ones at the farms. This saves me quite a bit.

Afterwards we went down to Spooner Farms. I love all of the photo ops there! They are pretty spendy when it comes to pumpkins but it is worth going just to look around and get pictures. They have a great gift shop area that is full of yummy goodies and all different kinds of gourds inclucing white and GIANT pumpkins. Most of the activities there are free. Some of them do require an extra fee. The sling shot is fun and only $1 for 2 pumpkins. It is fun to see how far you can sling it. They have a website (http://www.spoonerfarms.com/) It doesn't have very much information on it's activities on it but it does have driving directions.

Pumpkin patch Tips:

  • Wear mud boots. I don't care how nice it is, chances are there are still mud puddles and children will find them!
  • Bring extra clothes. For when they do find these mud puddles and fall in them (learned these two the hard way, yesterday)
  • Brind snacks. Hunting punkins is hard work
  • Don't forget your camera with fresh batteries The colors that are out there are wonderful!
  • If your schedule allows you to go on a weekday, opt for that over a weekend. Although not all activities are scheduled on the weekdays. But your little ones will have a lot more wiggle room!

If you have other pumpkin patches that are your favorite let me know. I would love to check out more and see which is the best!
